Stewardship Specialist
Tom joined Three Valley Conservation Trust in early 2025, after many years in the outdoor education world. From wilderness camps to university programs to parks and recreation, he has led adventures and experiences in the South and Midwest as well as overseas in the UK. Working at Three Valley completes the circle, allowing him to further put into practice what he learned as a graduate student at Miami University’s Institute for the Environment and Sustainability. As the Stewardship Specialist, Tom’s focus is monitoring easements, ensuring their conservation values are maintained. When not out in the field avoiding poison ivy and ticks, he spends his time hiking, paddling, and climbing with his son (while also avoiding poison ivy and ticks). Tom has been a Butler County resident since 2008, and loves stewarding for the community he lives in and the neighbors he lives with.
Conservation Consultant
A past member of Three Valley's board, Steve has also served as a part-time contractor since 2011, primarily helping staff the Paddy's Run Conservation Project and conducting other property research. He also serves in a volunteer capacity on the Ruder Preserve Management Committee and the Miami University Natural Areas Committee. A resident of Oxford Township, Steve holds undergraduate and graduate degrees in history from Miami. He is a native of Clermont County, Ohio.
Development Manager
April joined Three Valley Conservation Trust in 2022 as a grant writer and development consultant and was later hired as Development Manager in January 2024. She helped obtain funding that expanded the Ruder Boardwalk and launched the seed library initiative.
Born and raised in southwest Ohio, she grew up spending most of her time outdoors. She spent long summer days breaking an endless amount of beans before running off to climb trees or adopt stray cats. As a member of Liberty Pattern Pals 4H club, she entered baking, gardening and sewing projects in the Butler County Fair. Every few weeks her family would load up the car and drive “down-home” to eastern Kentucky to visit her grandparents. She was immersed in the beauty of Appalachia, hiking in the woods and listening for bobcats at night. Her time in the mountains ignited her passion for nature and appreciation for a slower life.
April graduated from Miami University and spent several years teaching language arts to students in grades 7-12. She has spent the last decade working in the nonprofit sector and still loves being in the woods. April is now a steward of her family’s Kentucky land and enjoys learning conservation practices from the knowledgeable team at Three Valley.
Stewardship Technician
Erik has been a Three Valley Conservation Trust team member since 2025. Erik has worked for the Bureau of Land Management in Butte, Montana as an Americorps intern with emphasis in wildlife biology, and for Miami University’s natural areas and ecology research center as a student specialist. In his free time Erik enjoys hiking, backpacking, caving, and gardening.

She has also been involved in nonprofit accounting, assisting with fundraising efforts for choristers traveling across the U.S. and Europe.

Three Valley Conservation Trust offers valuable internship opportunities for students who are passionate about conservation, land stewardship, and protecting the natural resources of Southwest Ohio. Our internship program provides hands-on experience in a nonprofit setting, with real-world applications in land protection, conservation planning, and environmental outreach.
We work closely with Miami University and regularly welcome students from a variety of majors, particularly those studying Environmental Science, Geography, Sustainability, and related fields. We have a strong preference for candidates with skills in Geographic Information Systems (GIS), as mapping and spatial analysis are essential tools in our land conservation work.
Interns at Three Valley Conservation Trust contribute to meaningful projects such as:
