The Timberman Ridge area expansion of Forest Run MetroPark has been made possible as a result of a cooperative conservation effort between the following parties in 2012. • The Trust for Public Land • Richard J. Fitton Family Foundation • Three Valley Conservation Trust • Ohio Public Works Commission (Clean Ohio Conservation Fund) • MetroParks of Butler County.
Beginning today, the 3.7 mile trail system that has been created on the property for daily enjoyment will lead park customer/owners through an exceptional property filled with natural diversity that includes a wide variety of wildlife and plant species. Everything from songbirds to timber stands filled with nesting owls, a rolling terrain for mammals, wildflowers and the seasonal assets typical of Butler County can be enjoyed by those step across the threshold to into this natural paradise. The Timberman Ridge property will be continue to be managed for these existing habitats including grasslands, wetlands, woods, fencerows, riparian corridors/greenway links for the watershed. Once on the trail everyone will definitely want to pause to take in the breathtaking scenic overlook at the top of the ridge and view the panoramic vista. Three catch and release ponds are also available on the property for public use.
Improvements will continue to be made in the future, including the addition of picnic tables and the availability of a rentable shelter space. Beginning Wednesday, or anytime daily thereafter, access the Timberman Ridge Area of Forest Run MetroPark from the driveway at 1976 Timberman Road, Hamilton, OH 45013. The driveway entrance at 1976 Timberman has provided the necessary safe access point to allow regular visits to this property. Continue up the lane toward the building, which will become the Welcome Center Area of Forest Run MetroPark and used for public meeting space in the future. Once past the Welcome Center Area visitors should continue through the gates and past the barns to find ample public parking, a park information board to familiarize yourself with the property, the trail head access point and portable restrooms.
A more formal Grand Opening Ceremony will take place on the property on Saturday, October, 11, 2014, but MetroParks couldn’t wait another moment to let our customer/owners begin to enjoy the property! Additionally, programs are already scheduled to help the public truly enjoy this property. The first programs will be Hayrides during September! The Harvest Moon Hayrides will include a night time wagon ride, pumpkin hunting by flashlight, campfire stories, activities and yummy S’mores by the fire….all by the light of the moon. These evening hayrides will be available September 8 th -10 th from 8:30 pm -10 pm. Alternatively, if the dark isn’t a fit for your group, the whole gang can come on Sunday, September 7th from 3 pm – 5 pm. The activities offered are the same as the Harvest Moon Hayride; however, you won’t need the flashlight! Advance reservations are required for all Hayrides.
